Recently, former two-time Welterweight Champion American Shawn Porter (31-4-1, 17 KOs) told the media that he expects the 45-year-old eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 KOs) to defeat WBC Interim Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios (29-2, 18 KOs), but current IBF Welterweight Champion Jaron Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) is someone Pacquiao should steer clear of.
Shawn Porter said, “I don’t want to see some retired veterans returning to the ring, even though they like to do it, I don’t support it. Personally, if you’re retired, enjoy your retirement and find something else to do. I believe Pacquiao will have a successful comeback, beat Barrios, and Jaron Ennis should be a target he avoids. I don’t think Pacquiao now has the ability to contend with Ennis. This might have been a great fight in the past, Pacquiao was indeed powerful years ago, but he’s not the same now. Barrios is too slow, he’ll take a lot of punches.”
Pacquiao is now preparing to return to the ring, and the WBC is also considering ordering him to fight Barrios for the vacant WBC 147-pound title. Barrios previously was TKOed by Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) and lost on points to faded Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs), indicating he isn’t one of the top fighters at 147 pounds.
