ESPN: Manchester United's Board Meets to Discuss Ten Hag's Future, Confirms His Continued Tenure

A source told ESPN that despite mounting pressure, the club’s executive committee, including co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer, met in central London on Tuesday to discuss the situation of Dutch coach Erik ten Hag. The meeting lasted more than six hours.

The meeting addressed the team’s poor start to the season, with Manchester United currently 14th in the Premier League, among other issues. However, with no clear directive, Ten Hag continues to work as usual for the upcoming match against Brentford at Old Trafford on October 19. Sources say he has been in contact with staff members who remained in Manchester.

Internally, Manchester United stated that the meeting was “long-scheduled and routine,” and participants included CEO Omar Al-Beraz, Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, Technical Director Jason Wilcox, and INEOS Sports Director Sir Dave Brailsford. Ten Hag is currently on holiday and plans to return to Carrington early next week to continue preparing for the match against Thomas Frank’s side.

Manchester United have now gone five games without a win and have only won two league matches this season. They have accumulated just eight points from their first seven games, including a 0-3 home defeat to Liverpool and Tottenham, marking their worst start in Premier League history. Only 19th-placed Southampton have scored fewer goals. After the 0-0 draw with Villa, Ten Hag described his job at Manchester United as a “long-term project” and expressed confidence in the support of key figures.

He spoke with members of the club’s leadership team at Villa Park, with no indication that his position is under immediate threat despite the disappointing start to the season. Manchester United have seven matches before the international break in November, starting with Saturday’s game against Brentford. They will also face West Ham, Chelsea, and Leicester City in the Premier League, Fenerbahçe and PAOK in the Europa League, and Leicester City again in the EFL Cup.
